DAR Good Citizens Program

The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with their state boards of education. DAR Good Citizens who enter the scholarship contest are eligible for the awards beyond the chapter level. Each state winner receives an award in the amount of at least $250 and a special state DAR Good Citizens pin and certificate. Each of the eight (8) national division (multi-state groups) winners will receive a cash award in the amount of $500. Two national winners will be invited to Washington, DC to attend Continental Congress and will be awarded $5,000 scholarships, inscribed silver bowls and certificates. Hagan Scholarship Foundation

The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide, need based, merit scholarship for high achieving students who will require financial assistance in order to attend college. These students will graduate from a public high school located in a county in the United States having fewer than 50,000 residents. 350 scholarships can be awarded each year. SD Bankers Foundation - Business Plan Competition and Scholarship Program

Six finalists will be chosen to travel to Pierre to present their oral plan before a panel of judges. Prizes include: first place: $1,500; second: $1,000; third: $500; fourth through sixth place will be cash awards of $300 for each place; seventh through tenth place will receive $100 each. Davis-Bahcall Scholarship

Student must be a high school senior with plans of attending a South Dakota post-secondary institution. Students must also have demonstrated an interest in science with the intent of pursuing an advanced degree in math, science, engineering or technology field.

Courage to Grow Scholarship

Student must be a junior or senior in high school with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or better; U.S. citizen. 

GE Reagan Foundation Scholarship

Students must be a HS Senior with a minimum of 3.0 GPA; Demonstrate financial need, leadership drive, integrity and citizenship.

State Farm Good Neighbor Scholarship

Applicants must be a HS senior; Plan to enroll in the fall for full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two or four-year college university or vocational-technical school for the entire academic year; GPA of 2.50 to 3.20; Demonstrate financial need.

Kiwanis Educational Fundraiser 

Applicants must be a graduating senior with plans of a post-secondary education. Students must have a grade-point average of at least a "B" average or the equivalent of a 3.0 GPA.

Eastern Chapter SD Engineering Society

This $2,000 engineering scholarship is available for HS graduates who will be attending SD engineering schools. Students planning on attending SD School of Mines and Technology or SD State University may apply. Applicants will be judged on ACT scores, transcripts, extracurricular activities and answers to questions on the application. See Ms. Kaaz for an application. 

JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship Application

Scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors in South Dakota, who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. They must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. Applications will be judged and ranked as 1st place recipient ($250 award); 2nd place recipient ($200 award); 3rd place recipient ($150 award). Winning recipient applications are eligible for the US JCI Senate Scholarship award of $1,000. Cam-Wal Electric Scholarship

The Basin Electric Power Cooperative is again offering $1,000 college scholarships to students in the eight-state region served by its members. The scholarships are for the 2018-2019 college academic year. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and the dependents of member-system consumers. Applicants also must be students enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school.

MIT THINK Scholars Program $500

Annis I. Fowler/Kaden Scholarship

Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be currently enrolled as a freshman at either BHSU, NSU, DSU or USD with an intent to pursue elementary education.

NIAAA

High school seniors may apply. Qualified applicants will have achieved one of the following:  a B+ average; ranked top 25% of class; ACT score of 24. Additional requirements include participation in two years of sports gaining one varsity letter in two of those sports. Students must complete application with recommendation from athletic director and the school director must be a NIAAA member. 

Dakota Corps Scholarship Program

Student must be a high school graduate with a GPA of 2.8 or greater with an ACT score of 27. Student must also agree to live in South Dakota and work in a critical need occupation after graduation for as many years as the scholarship was received, plus one year. 

Tractor Supply Co. Scholarship

Students must be pursuing a four-year degree in agriculture and reside in the state of SD.

Ramona Boersma Scholarship

Available for HS seniors or college sophomores; Must be a son or daughter of member of the SDEA or NEA; meet academic requirements; be accepted or enrolled in a SD college or university; Student must plan on entering the teaching profession.

Best Buy Scholarship Program

Scholarships are awarded to students who volunteer time to their communities, excel in academics, and participate in extra-curricular activities. 

Buick Achievers Scholarship

Students must be planning to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business with an interest in the automotive industry.

Southeastern District Dental Society Benevolent Scholarship

Students pursuing a degree in dental hygiene at the University of South Dakota.

National Interscholastic Athletic Administration Scholarship 

Students must participate in two sports for a minimum of two years; Maintain a B+ average; Receive a 24 or higher on ACT.

Lowes Scholarship

Available to HS students with a 3.25 and above GPA; Demonstrating financial need; character, scholastic achievement, objectives, volunteerism, potential for leadership and good citizenship.

POET Schoalrship

Scholarship is available to students enrolled in any SD two-year or four-year post-secondary school, regardless of major or GPA. 

Elks Legacy Scholarship

Foundation for Rural Service Scholarship

The Foundation for Rural Service (FRS), the philanthropic arm of the National Telephone Cooperative Association, was established in 1994 with its mission being to promote and enhance the quality of life in rural America -- with education being one of its main focuses. Should a student from the Venture Communications service area be selected to receive one of the national scholarships ($2,000 each), Venture Communications will make a $500 matching contribution to the scholarship resulting in a total scholarship of $2,500. It should be noted that preference will be given to individuals expressing an interest to return to work in a rural area following graduation. FEM Electric and Basin Electric Power Cooperative 

Applicants must be a child of an FEM Electric member. FEM Electric provides electrical power to rural McPherson, Edmunds and Faulk County residents. The top applicant will receive the $1,000 Basin scholarship, the second and third top applicants will each receive a $500 FEM scholarship. Please see Ms. Kaaz for more information.

Avera St. Lukes Auxiliary

The Avera St. Luke's Auxiliary is offering six $500 scholarships. Application deadline: March 6, 2018. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher; must attend HS within the Avera St. Luke's service area; must attend a SD college or university; area of study must be in a health-related field; recipient will be selected by the Scholarship Committee of Avera St. Luke's Auxiliary; check will be forwarded to the Financial Aid Office at the school student will be attending and applied toward tuition fees. Curtis Marvin Hohn Legacy 

Students must plan to attend a private or public university in South Dakota with intentions of studying history, political science or water resources. 

Young Women in Public Affairs  

This program is available for young women ages 16-19 who have displayed an active commitment to volunteerism and have experience in local, student or workplace government.

Bellator Titans

This scholarship is for all eligible South Dakota students that display financial need and that are enrolled in their first year of post-secondary education in South Dakota. 

Coach Russ Morrell Memorial

Scholarship applicants must be a graduate from a SD high school and have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.2. Students must provide a resume and of extra-curricular community service activities.

Hatterscheidt Foundation Scholarship

Students must be a graduate from a SD high school with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. They must complete their FAFSA, exhibit financial need and plan to attend USD. 

Health Care Plus Educational Scholarship

Student must be a full-time student and a current member of Health Care Plus Federal Credit Union to apply. 

Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship

Student must be plan on attending a higher institution of learning, be a resident of South Dakota and be a descendent of a military veteran. 

Student Loan Finance Corp Scholarship

South Dakota Youth Trooper Academy

Touchstone Energy Cooperatives of South Dakota - SD Dept. of Agriculture, SD Assn. of Conservation Districts, US Fish & Wildlife Service - Resource Conversation Speech Contest

This opportunity is available to all high school students. Two winners from each district contest will be eligible to participate in their respective Natural Resource Area contest. $2,300 is available to students with state champion winning $1,100; second place $750; and third place $450.

SD Agri-Business Association Scholarship

Open to HS and undergraduate students majoring in agriculture in South Dakota.

SD Fire Fighters Association Scholarship

A son or daughter of any member (living, deceased or retired) of a fire department in South Dakota or an active member of a junior fire department in SD. The applicant must be sponsored by a fire department that has 100% membership in the SD Firefighters Assn. for the current year. The scholarship may be used at a SD college, or post-secondary institution, but may be used in the field of fire science outside of South Dakota.

Better Business Bureau Student of Integrity Scholarship 

Student must be a 2017-2018 graduate with plans to attend an accredited higher education institution; have a 3.25 GPA or higher.

MN Timberwolves Fast-break Foundation

Student must be enrolled in a college or university; Must have a minimum 19 ACT score and 3.0 GPA; Must participate in extra-curricular activities; Must complete 45 hours of community service, outside of school, during the course of the academic school year. 

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund

Applicants must be a graduating senior who plans to attend a four-year college or university. They must demonstrate financial need; have a 3.5 GPA or higher; participate in extracurricular activities; demonstrate an interest in and understanding of the role of business in the American society. 

Joe Foss "An American Hero" 

Applicants must plan to attend a college, university or vocational or technical school; have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better and have a minum ACT score of 21; demonstrate characteristics of an American patriot; available to seniors graduating from SD high school. 

CorTrust Bank

Applicants must be a graduating HS senior in the year in which the scholarship is awarded. Students must live in the community of a CorTrust location offering the scholarship. National Independent Automobile Dealers Association

Students must be classified as a HS senior during the the current school year; have maintained an outstanding academic achievement record as reflected by HS transcript and demonstrate an aptitude for college work as measured by ACT.

Lewis J. Menzel Memorial Scholarship

This ​$500 scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding senior who is a resident of South Dakota; has a GPA of 25 or above, and been accepted to a four-year college. Citizenship and extracurricular involvement are important. Financial need will be considered. 

State Farm Good Neighbor Scholarship

Graduating seniors must have a cumulative GPA between 2.5 and 3.2; plan to enroll in a two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school. 

Venture Communications Citizenship and Community Service Scholarship

12 - $500 Scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors in 2018. The student's parent or legal guardian must reside in and be an active telephone subscriber within a Venture Communications telephone exchange. Students must also have a cumulative B average or above grade point average. Scholarships awarded will be based upon Citizenship, Community Service, Academics and School Involvement. Aberdeen Valley of the Scottish Rite 

20 - $250 book grants are available to students in the Aberdeen area in the spring of 2018. The applicant may attend a college, university, or post-secondary school of his or her choice. Build Dakota Scholarship 

Build Dakota is a new scholarship program created through a $50 million investment funded by a $25 million donation from T. Denny Sanford and a $25 million contribution from the South Dakota Future Fund. Build Dakota Scholarships will be awarded to skilled scholars entering high-need workforce programs such as: manufacturing, automotive technicians, construction, energy, engineering, medical laboratory technicians or nurses at South Dakota technical institutes

Farmers Union Insurance 

Students must be accepted and enrolled in a post-secondary institution school in South Dakota and involved in SD high school activities or family be a Farmer's Union Insurance patron. 

Carol C. Malony 

This scholarship is available to one senior male and one senior female who have participated in the fine arts. 

PEO Chapter BX Scholarship

This scholarship is for students that display excellence in leadership, academics, extra-curricular activities, community service and potential for futre success. Students must be in their final academic year (senior) of her secondary education and is 20 years of age or under at the end of the calendar year. Student must also have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Student must also be recommended by and receive the vote of a local P.E.O. chapter. 

Critical Needs Scholarship

Student must agree in writing to work and live in South Dakota in a critical teaching need position for five years after graduating from a participating post-secondary institution. Students must agree through a promissory note, that failure to abide by the employment requirements will result in the scholarship being converted into an interest-bearing loan. Students must attend a post-secondary institution as an undergraduate and be enrolled in the final two years of post-secondary education program. Students must also be a U.S. citizen with a minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA.

South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship

Student must be a SD resident; have an ACT score of 24 or higher; Complete all HS course requirements with no final grade below a "C" and a cumulative HS GPA of 3.0 on a 4l0 scale (grade of "B") prior to graduation. 

Horatio Alger State Scholarship

Student must be a HS senior with plans of attending a US college. Students must exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and ocmplete a bachelor's degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the US. Students must demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required). Student must be involved in co-curricular and community service activities. Student must display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity. Student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be a U.S. citizen. 

David L. Profilet Scholarship

Students must plan to attend Augustana College in Sioux Falls; maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher; demonstrate financial need; show character traits such as courage, determination, and an ability to overcome adversity. 

Kids' Chance Scholarship Application 

Students must be a HS graduate, dependent of a parent who suffered either an on the job fatality or injuries that have had a significant adverse effect on family income. 

SD Farmers Union Foundation

Available to seniors or college freshmen who are applying or accepted at SD school whose parents are members of the SD Farmers Union. 

Dakota Area Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Fund

Student must be a minimum of 18 years old; provide official HS transcript or GED and college or technical school transcripts, showing course and grades; provide proof of one full credit of HS algebra or one post HS algebra course with a passing grade.If you have previous electrical construction work experience, we will need verification of your hours from the contractor(s) in order to award previous experience credit. 

SD Assn. of Towns and Townships

One $1,000 and one $500 scholarship will be awarded. Student applicants must be a HS senior from SD attending a public, private, parochial or home school program. To qualify, students must live in a town or township with a current membership in SDATAT.

CHS Foundation Scholarships

Available to HS seniors pursuing a two or four-year degree in an agriculture-related major.

David L. Profilet Scholarship

Applicants must be a SD HS graduate who plans to attend Augustana; have a GPA of 3.0 or higher; Demonstrate financial need and character traits such as courage, determination, and an ability to overcome adversity.

SLS Consulting Marketing Scholarship

Applicants must be a high school senior or undergraduate student pursuing or planning to pursue a degree in marketing, business administration, writing, design or computer science; have a 3.0 GPA.

William A. Bromes, M.D. Science Award

This award is open to all seniors who have participated in the area of science and will continue their science education.

Street Masters Scholarship

Applicant must be a senior at a SD high school. Applicant must have maintained a 2.5 GPA or better over his/her high school career. Applicant must be enrolling in an institution of higher learning with the intention of preparing for a career in a field related to the automobile industry. 

SD Cattlemen's Foundation Scholarship

Four scholarships are awarded annually. Students must meet the following requirements: Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution in SD; must be a resident of SD; Demonstrate interest in future involvement in the beef industry; Demonstrate interest in taking leadership roles in agriculture based organizations; Demonstrated volunteerism; Complete a 500-800 word essay on any topic you see as critical to the future of the beef business and what you see your role is in addressing it. Submit two letters of reference describing your involvement in the beef industry. 

First District Development Company

First District Development company, South Dakota's small business finance partner, is pleased to offer five - $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a post-secondary degree in a business/finance related field. Students must be a U.S. citizen; be a high school senior attending a South Dakota high school; be accepted into a business/finance program at an accredited, post-secondary institution in SD; have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or greater, calculated on a 4.0 grading scale; submit an application with documentation by April 6, 2018. Walworth County Farm Bureau Scholarship

The $1,000 Walworth County Farm Bureau Scholarship is available to those who meet the following criteria: 1) The student and his/her parents must be members of the Walworth Co. Farm Bureau. You will be considered a member if you have insurance through one of the insurance agents in Walworth County, but you may also be a member through a general membership in the Walworth Co. Farm Bureau; 2) The student must have attained a grade point average of a minimum of 2.5 on a 4.0 grade point scale; 3) The student must be pursuing a two or four year degree in a course of study in higher education which is related to agriculture. This could be any subject related to science, production, economics, etc., at a four year institution; or may be a course of study such as diesel mechanics, farm business or production, etc., at any two year institution. Six awards for $2,500 each. Walter J. Travis Memorial Scholarship

Available to HS seniors or undergraduate students; Must be a college golf participant or pursuing a golf-related profession such as landscape design, golf course architecture, turf management, golf course superintendent, professional golf management/club professional or sports journalism (focus on golf); Enroll in a two-year or four-year college or university. The scholarship committee will be considering the applicant's academics, career goals, involvement in extracurricular activities.

Aspiring Nurse Scholarship

Applicants must display a track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics. Students should also have a passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare. This scholarship is open to all US HS seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN, LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. Applicants must be in good academic standing and on tract to graduate from high school. 

Automotive Hall of Fame Scholarship Program 

In order for students to be eligible for this scholarship, students should be interested in the automotive field and demonstrate financial need. They should also be seniors with a minimum of 3.0 GPA.

Big Sun

All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. Their participation may be in any capacity, whether as a player, coach or official. The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post-secondary institute and currently involved in some sport that institution or in the community.

Nursing School Almanac

Students must display a track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics. They should have a passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare. Walter Panzier Family Scholarship

Applicants must be the son or daughter, step-son or step-daughter, or adopted child of an active or former member of law enforcement. This scholarship will be awarded to an applicants who is currently a resident, or who has formerly been a resident of the state of SD, with current SD residents given preference. Scholarship applicants can pursue any degree, however, applicants pursuing a field in criminal justice will be given preference.

CPA Society Scholarship

The Certified Public Accountants of South Dakota give away around $15,000 a year in scholarship money to those students who show a promising future in the financial world of accounting. They offer both the Accounting Program Completion Scholarship and the Accounting Excellence Scholarships to deserving applicants. See their website for specific details.
